Taylor Kinney and Lady Gaga had not been pictured together in public for four months before their split was announced.
It was confirmed by the Born This Way singer that she and her Vampire Diaries fiance were taking "a break" after five years of dating on Instagram this morning following reports they had ended their relationship.
Taylor and Gaga, who became engaged in 2015, were last seen in public together at the end of March, celebrating the singer's 30th birthday.
The doting actor was on the birthday girl's arm as they headed to her star-studded party in Los Angeles as they celebrated the star reaching the milestone.
The couple had been all over the red carpet during award season thanks to Gaga's multiple nominations.
She won Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel at the Golden Globes but missed out on the Oscar for Best Original track for Til It Happens To You.
Taylor had been by her side on the red carpet as she hit the Hollywood ceremonies, but after award season things went quiet for the couple. On Tuesday night an emotional Lady Gaga addressed reports surrounding her split from Taylor, revealing that she hoped they will get back together at some stage.
“Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates,” she wrote. "Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break.
"We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared."
The singer, 30, said she hopes her fans are rooting for them because they’re still very much in love.
"Please root us on. We're just like everybody else and we really love each other."
The split news surfaced after the pair hadn't been pictured together for weeks and the singer hadn't shared a picture of him on her social media accounts for over a month.
While last week, on Taylor's 35th birthday, Gaga, 30, was seen without her engagement ring while she was out and about in Malibu.
Taylor and Gaga met on the set of her You and I video and she previously revealed how they kept their long-distance romance alive.
She said: "We don't have any rules about calling each other at certain times ... We'll go days at a time without talking and then we'll talk every day.
"He's on his journey and I'm on mine and we're gypsies. And then when we're together, we're really in love and that's it."
